Aging in Place House

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Type: Renovation - Addition

A couple sought to build a laneway house to allow the husband, who is facing diminishing physical capabilities due to a long-term fatal illness, to age-in-place in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by loved ones.

The laneway house was designed as a home office and study to give him barrier-free access to the kitchen, dining, living space and gardens. Over time, when the husband requires full-time care, the laneway house will be transformed into a studio bedroom to accommodate live-in assistance.
